Internal Pump & Pipe Strip Anode
CerAnode Strip Anodes & Power Plate Anodes Ideal for:
Internal Pipe Protection, Internal Valve Protection,
Ship Hull Protection, Locks & Dams, Etc.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION The CerAnode Strip features a multi-layered versatile anode construction providing exceptional impact resistance, mechanical strength, chemical resistance and electrochemical durability. In addition to the standard versions of the anode described below, the basic design allows for easy modification to meet the demands of varied applications requiring a different current rating, mounting technique or cable attachment.
RUGGED ANODE BAR COMPOSITE CONSTRUCTION A 1/4" thick 1-1/2" wide titanium bar is coated with a high powered iridium/tantalum/titanium based mixed metal oxide ceramic. Other anode bar sizes are available. This material is tested at current densities greater than 20,000 amperes per square meter.
DIELECTRIC PROTECTIVE SHIELD The titanium anode bar mounts onto a PVC, PE or FRP dielectric shield. Other shield materials are also available (maximum length = 8 feet).
AUXILIARY SHIELD To increase the throwing power or driving force of the strip anode, an additional auxiliary shield made of PVC, PE or FRP is available. This mounts under the CerAnode Strip's primary shield. It allows the anode to be operated at a higher voltage if necessary without over polarizing the area surrounding the anode. Auxiliary shields are sometimes “painted” onto
the cathode surface but this must be a very
dense and thick coating to be effective.
LOW PROFILE DESIGN The anode with its primary shield protrudes a fraction of an inch from the surface to which it is mounted.
20 YEAR DESIGN LIFE
The design life of the Strip Anode is 20 years. A
longer design life can be accommodated as if
needed. Operating temperature for design life is
5-50o C (10-50o for seawater). The current
rating is adjusted to the application and there is
not maximum operating voltage.
LOW RESISTANCE LINEAR CONFIGURATION The Strip Anode geometry is particularly useful where it is desirable to optimize for low voltage, low power or where a higher current is needed for fresh water applications. The Power Plate Anode is excellent where high power is required. They can be designed for the
specific application.

The CerAnode Strip features a multi-layered versatile anode construction providing exceptional
impact resistance, mechanical strength, chemical resistance and electrochemical durability. In
addition to the standard versions of the anode described below, the basic design allows for easy
modification to meet the demands of varied applications requiring a different current rating,
mounting technique or cable attachment.
The anode with its primary shield protrudes a fraction of an inch from the surface to which it is
mounted. Its hydrodynamic design allows it to be mounted internally in pumps and pipelines
with fast flowing media. The shield arrangement and size is tailored to the application.
CerAnode's very thin anode coating in combination with its ductile titanium substrate is
extremely durable. The particular mixed metal oxide ceramic is custom formulated and is tested
at extremely high current densities to insure consistent product quality. It consists of Iridium,
tantalum and titanium metal oxides in sufficient quantities and ratios to provide a life expectancy
beyond its cataloged value. The anode is classified as inert being made from some of the most
corrosion resistant materials known to man. This provides the conservatism in anode design
needed to assure a long life even in harsh environments. Since this ceramic material will
support the evolution of both oxygen and chlorine, it is the choice for fresh water and sea water
environments.
The design life and current rating and anode size can be adjusted to meet most requirements.
Operating temperature for highest design life is 5-50o C (10-50o for seawater). There is no
maximum operating voltage.
The Strip Anode geometry is particularly useful where it is desirable to optimize for low voltage,
low power or where a higher current is needed for fresh water applications. The Strip Anodes
are excellent where a high power anode is required.
It mounts by means of dielectric mounting studs eliminating any additional dielectrics or
spacers. One of the mounting studs doubles as a power feed in the form of a terminal or
Underwater Connector. Appropriate gasketing and other seal technology is used to assure a
proper environmental isolation.

NOTES:
1. The anode is designed to mount in
bulkheads up to 20mm thick.
2. The mounting studs are 1”-8 threaded
g-10 mandrel wound titanium reinforced
frp. They are designed to fit a 1 inch
hole.
3. The shield is made of polyethylene.
(other materials are available ane are
application dependent.) pe was chosen
for its physical characteristics and
mechanical performance in high velocity
flow and jet stream environment.
4. The plate anode is supplied with
mounting nuts and washers. These can
be either frp or steel. Steelthread-seal
washers are also available.
5. After strip is mounted to bulkhead,
junction head slips over mounting stud.
A compression nut, then, secures it in
any direction. If the connection is to
be underwater, a pvc junction head is
suggested which is then backfilled with
polyuretane.
6. The active anode material is a special
mixed metal oxide ceramic applied to a
titanium substrate by means of plasma
spray processing. It is tough and resists
abrasion. The anode is rated at 10 amperes
for 20 years in fresh water and 40 amperes
in sea water.
